3 Bentley Men Honored for Academics; Falcon Track Team Leads Nation in GPA

WALTHAM, Mass. – Former Bentley University sprinter MikeVatti (Easton, Pa./Easton HS), a May graduate, and Bentley rising senior Curtis Trueb (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester HS) have both been named to the 2012 Men's Track and Field Division II All-Academic team by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

It's the fifth All-Academic recognition award for Trueb, who was previously cited for track the last two years and for cross country in 2009 and 2010.

In addition, rising senior Sean Maguire (Essex, Vt./Essex HS) was recently voted to the Academic All-Northeast-10 team for outdoor track, an award he previously won for indoor track.

Coach Kevin Curtin's team was also recognized as a team, with the Falcons receiving All-Academic status from the USTFCCCA. The Falcons' aggregate GPA of 3.42 ranks number one in the country amongst Division II men's track teams.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 and have reached a provisional or automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA Championships in either the indoor or outdoor seasons.

Both Vatti and Trueb provisionally qualified during the indoor season, at the New Englands in late February. Vatti ran the 400 in 48.64 seconds and Trueb turned in a season-best 4:11.44 in the mile, an event he owns the school record in. Vatti's time ranked second on Bentley's all-time list.

Maguire's junior season featured earning All-New England honors in the 10,000 meters at the outdoor New Englands with a fifth-place finish with his time of 31:25.28 the third best recorded by an East Region runner in 2012.
