WALTHAM, Mass. – A trio of Bentley University juniors have been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District 1 track and cross country teams by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). They are John Drago (Avon, Conn./Avon HS), Sean Maguire (Essex, Vt./Essex HS) and Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Burlington HS).

All three, standouts in the classroom as well as on the track, will advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America® consideration.  Each owns a grade point average of 3.8 or better, and all are majoring in corporate finance and accounting.

Drago, who is also majoring in liberal studies, earned Division II All-East recognition in cross country after placing 19th in the NCAA Division East Regional. A cross country co-captain who missed the indoor and outdoor seasons due to injury, he is a two-time Academic All-Northeast-10 selection in cross country.

Maguire capped his outdoor season by earning All-New England honors in the 10,000 with a fifth-place finish at the New England Championships. He posted the third-best 10K time in the East Region this spring (31:25.28), earning All-East recognition, and was fifth in the 5000 at the indoor Northeast-10 Championships.   During the cross country season, he was part of Bentley's top six in the four races he ran.

Varsell had an outstanding junior year, earning a multitude of awards, including the third and fourth All-America awards of her career. Her list of accolades included three-time Northeast-10 champion, New England champion in the indoor 800, USTFCCCA Division II East Region Women's Track Athlete of the Year both indoors and out, Northeast-10 Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year and the Northeast-10 Sport Excellence Award for Women's Indoor Track. She broke school records on numerous occasions, had two top-five finishes at the NCAA Championships and was fourth in the NCAA Division II East Regional Cross Country Championships.
