Campbell & Freshmen Lead Strong Day 1 Effort for Bentley Men in NE-10 Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Gabe Campbell (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury HS) finished second in the 10,000 meters and three freshmen also scored to lead a strong day one effort by the Bentley University men's outdoor track and field team at the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference Championships Friday at Southern Connecticut State University.

Bentley amassed 23 points Friday and currently stands in third place, behind Stonehill College and the host team.

Campbell qualified for next weekend's New Englands with his time of 32:17.91 in the 10,000 as he improved on his previous career best by about 34 seconds. He reached the finish line about six seconds after the winner, Connor Dolan of Adelphi University.

Bentley also took sixth in the 10K as junior Teddy Farley (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough Reg. HS) finished in 32:17.91.

The Falcons' other 13 points came in the field events as four members of the class of 2015 turned in strong performances.

Anthony Charter (Hubbardston, Mass./Quabbin Reg. HS) moved to number two on Bentley's all-time list in the long jump, behind only All-America decathlete Mark Ivanov '88, as he was fourth with a leap of 22 feet, 4.5 inches.  That bettered his previous PR by nearly five inches.

In the javelin, Chris Ricci (Coventry, R.I./Bishop Hendricken HS) and Kyle Sullivan (Burlington, Mass./Burlington HS) were fifth and seventh, respectively with both setting new personal bests. Ricci posted a throw of 172 feet, five inches, and Sullivan's best was 161'4".

Nikos Devletoglou (Athens, Greece) rounded out the list of scorers for the Falcons, placing eighth in the high jump after clearing six feet, three-quarters inch.

The meet continues on Saturday, beginning at 11 am.
