Charter Receives Rookie of the Week Honors from Northeast-10

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University freshman Anthony Charter (Hubbardston/Quabbin Reg. HS) has been named the Men's Field Rookie of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference following his strong performance Saturday during the Boston University Valentines Invitational.

Charter established a new PR in the triple jump with a distance of 44 feet, one-half inch.  It put him third on this season's Northeast-10 performance list and was the best recorded by a Bentley athlete indoors since 1992. In the meet, Charter placed 14th in a field of 35.

In addition, three Falcons, all of whom achieved NCAA Division II provisional qualifying times, were named to the Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll for their efforts at BU on Saturday. They were senior Mike Vatti (Easton, Pa./Easton HS) and juniors Caitlin Fahey (Bridgewater/Coyle-Cassidy HS) and Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS).

Vatti provisionally qualified in the 400 (49.17 seconds) and met the qualifying standards for the New Englands in both the 400 and 200 (22.59). He finished 30th of 172 in the 400 and 39th of 167 in the 200.

Fahey broke a 24-year-old record in the mile as she became the first NE-10 runner this season to break the five-minute barrier, finishing in 4:58.63. Varsell posted the eighth best 800-meter time in Division II this season, a Northeast-10 season-best 2:12.58.  The two also helped Bentley break a four-year-old school record in the distance medley relay.

This Saturday, Bentley will compete in the Northeast-10 Conference championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
