Vatti Wins 400 at GBTC Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. – A 43-day layoff since his last meet didn't seem to bother Bentley University senior Mike Vatti (Easton, Pa./Easton HS), who won the Saka Water Open 400 during the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational Sunday at Harvard University with a time of 50.47 seconds.

That was the highest finish for a member of the Bentley University men's indoor track and field team in the squad's first competition since Dec. 10.

Vatti also turned in a solid effort in the Puma Invitational Open section of the 200 meters, posting a time of 22.85 seconds.

Freshman Anthony Charter (Hubbardston/Quabbin Reg. HS) tied for third among 13 in the triple jump, his distance of 42 feet, 8.75 inches elevating him to number eight on Bentley's all-time list in the event. He was also eighth of 20 in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, one-quarter inch.

Senior Steve Long (Newton/Newton North HS) turned in his usual solid effort in the shot put, with his throw of 42 feet, eight inches good for fourth place among 18 competitors.

Junior Sean Maguire (Essex, Vt./Essex HS) set a new personal best in the 3,000 meters as he finished seventh of 37 with a time of 8:51.71.

In the mile, juniors Craig Robinson (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough HS) and Rob Dextradeur (Branford, Conn./Branford HS) were sixth and 13th, respectively, in a field of 69 runners. Robinson finished in 4:23.27 and Dextradeur was clocked in 4:29.68.

Junior Bryan Carton (Norwell/Norwell HS) was eighth of 60 in the 200 (51.84) and 11th of 69 in the 400 (51.84).

On Saturday, Bentley will compete in the Boston University Terrier Invitational.
