WALTHAM, Mass. -- Bentley University sophomore All-America Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./ Lewis S. Mills HS) has been selected to the 2010-11 Capital One Academic All-District 1 Women's Track college division second team by the region's sports information directors.

Varsell was also one of five members of the Bentley track team recently named to the 2010-11 Academic All-Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Track team. That list also included juniors Evelyn Marrero (Amsterdam, N.Y./Amsterdam HS) and Steven Long (Allston/Newton North HS) and sophomores John Drago (Avon, Conn./Avon HS) and Curtis Trueb (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester HS).

Varsell had an outstanding year for the Falcons, with her second collegiate season highlighted by finishing fourth in the 800 meters at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M. and again at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships in Turlock, Calif.  She also was a two-time Northeast-10 champion, winning the 800 at both the indoor and outdoor conference meets, and a two-time All-New England honoree.

Varsell, who previously was selected for the Academic All-Conference team in cross country, made a habit of breaking school records this year. She did so a total of 11 times, with her best times in the 800 now 2:11.73 indoors and 2:11.07 outdoors.

Varsell also shined in the classroom, amassing a 3.90 grade point average while majoring in corporate finance and accounting.

Marrero, an accountancy major with a GPA exceeding 3.6, finished third in the 3000 at the Northeast-10 indoor championships. She was the 2009 NE-10 indoor champion in the 5000, the runner-up in the 10,000 at the conference outdoor championships the last two seasons and a member of the NE-10 All-Academic team in 2010.

Long, one of the Falcons' co-captains, earner Academic All-Conference honors for the third time, previously having earned the honor both indoors and outdoors in 2010. He finished third in the shot put at the Northeast-10 Indoor Championships in February and is the school record holder in the weight throw. A corporate finance and accounting major, Long has amassed a GPA over 3.6.

Drago finished second in the 5,000 at the Northeast-10 indoor championships, and also earned indoor All-New England honors with a third-place finish. He has a GPA over 3.8 with a double major (corporate finance and accounting, liberal studies), and is earning Academic All-NE-10 accolades for the second time. He was previously honored for cross country last fall.

Trueb, a computer information systems major with a GPA over 3.6, had an outstanding indoor season, one capped by competing in the mile at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M. He entered the championships with the nation's fifth best qualifying time (4:08.12), and during a three-week stretch, broke the school record in the mile twice and the 1000 once.
