Walant Closes Out Collegiate Career in Style at New Englands
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Bentley University senior hurdler Tim Walant (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North HS) saved his best for last, setting a personal best in the 110 meter hurdles Friday at the New England Intercollegiate Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Southern Connecticut State University.
Walant finished 11th in a field of 27, with his time of 15.29 seconds shattering his previous best by 0.39 seconds. That elevated him to number six on Bentley's all-time list in the event and was fifth best among Division II runners in the event.
In the 10,000 meters, junior Tom Witherell (Los Alamos, N.M./Los Alamos HS) and senior Robby Ballenthin (Lexington, Mass./Lexington HS) were 20th and 21st respectively. Witherell finished in 32:52.18 and Ballenthin's time was 33:15.39.
Sophomore Bryan Carton (Norwell, Mass./Norwell HS) finished 27th in the 200 meters with a time of 23.44 seconds.
The only Bentley woman to run on Friday was junior Evelyn Marrero (Amsterdam, N.Y./ Amsterdam HS), who was 27th in the 5000 meters in 19:06.89.
The New Englands will continue on Saturday.
