Kusmin Earns Bronze in Triple Jump at Northeast-10 Championships

LOWELL, Mass. -- Senior David Kusmin (Westwood/Westwood HS) had the highest finish for a Bentley University athlete in the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which concluded Saturday at UMass-Lowell.

Kusmin finished third in the triple jump, posting a distance of 42 feet, 9.75 inches. That put him behind only Diwani Augustine of Southern Connecticut State (47'7.75") and William Nguidjoi of UMass-Lowell (45'1.5").  On Friday, Kusmin recorded a sixth-place finish in the long jump.

Junior Steven Long (Allston/Newton North HS), who was sixth in the discus Friday, bettered that by placing fourthin the shot with a throw of 45 feet, 2.5 inches. Also in the shot, senior Marcus Chang (West Newton/Newton North HS) was 10th (40'4").

Senior Tim Walant (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North HS) was sixth in the 110 meter hurdles (16.41) and junior Dan Fava (Malden/Malden Catholic HS) placed eighth in the 800 (1:57.21). Bentley also recorded a pair of tenths, sophomore Bryan Carton (Norwell/Norwell HS) in the 200 (23.33 seconds) and junior Tom Witherell (Los Alamos, N.M./Los Alamos HS) in the 5000 (15:51.07).

Carton was also part of two Bentley relay teams that registered fifth-place finish. He combined with Long, junior Mike Vatti (Easton, Pa./Easton Area HS) and sophomore Derek Sit (Wellesley/ Wellesley HS) for a time of 44.11 seconds in the 4x100, and with senior James Roche (Arlington/ Arlington HS) and juniors Andy Gauthier (Dracut/Central Catholic HS) and Andrew Foley (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) for a 3:34.32 in the 4x400.

Bentley finished eighth of ten in the team standings, putting up a total of 34 points. Southern Connecticut State captured the team title with 221 points, and Stonehill College was second with 154.
