Kennedy, Vatti Lead Bentley Men at UMass-Lowell

LOWELL,Mass. -- Freshman Eric Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn./Northwest Catholic HS) had the highest finish for a member of the Bentley University men's outdoor track team during Saturday's George Davis Invitational at UMass-Lowell.

Kennedy led a strong Bentley showing in the 200 meters by finishing second in 22.72 seconds, 0.24 seconds back of Saint Rose's Ryan Saunders. Bentley junior Mike Vatti (Easton, Pa./Easton Area HS) was fourth in 22.93, and sophomore Bryan Carton (Norwell/Norwell HS) was 12th in the 47-man field, finishing in 23.75.

Kennedy and Vatti each had a seventh-place finish as well, and were part of the Falcons' 4x100 relay team that was fifth of 11 in 43.90 seconds. That relay also included sophomore Derek Sit (Wellesley/Wellesley HS) and senior David Kusmin (Westwood/Westwood HS). Kennedy's seventh came in the 100 meters (11.56 seconds) and Vatti's was in the 44-runner 400 (50.27).

Kusmin had a solid afternoon in the field events, placing fifth of 33 in the long jump (21 feet, 10.25 inches) and eighth of 17 in the triple jump (43 feet, 5 inches).

Junior Steven Long (Allston/Newton North HS) had a pair of top ten finishes in the throwing events. He was sixth of 34 in the shot, with his throw of 45 feet one-quarter inch an outdoor personal best and good for fifth on Bentley's all-time list. In addition, he threw the discus 125 feet 11 inches, ninth best amongst 32 competitors.

Bentley's other individual top ten efforts were posted by senior Steve Gendron (Lowell/Lowell HS) in the 5000 (15:24.66, 8th of 29) and junior Gabe Campbell (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury HS) in the steeplechase (10:17.32).

Bentley's next meet is the Northeastern University Husky Invitational next Saturday.
