Trueb Repeats as NE-10 Men’s Track Athlete of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. -- For the second time in as many weeks, Bentley University sophomore Curtis Trueb (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester HS) has been selected as the Men's Track Athlete of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference.

Trueb ran the mile in 4:08.12 at the Yale Giegengack Invitational, breaking the school record he set a week earlier at the BU Terrier Classic by 0.94 seconds. He finished third in the meet, behind two runners from Georgetown University, and his time was the third best recorded by a Division II miler thus far this season.

Trueb earned second-team All-Conference honors during the cross country season, garnered All-New England accolades in the 800 meters during the 2010 outdoor campaign, and participated in the USA Junior Track and Field Championships last June in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll included two other Bentley runners, sophomore Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS) and sophomore Ashley Nichols (Kenmore, Wash./ Inglemoor HS), both of whom also ran well at the Giegengack.

Varsell ran the 800 meters in a personal best 2:17.69 to finish third in her heat and 12th of 46 in the race, with all 11 runners in front of her from Division I institution. Her time was the fourth best in the NE-10 this season and was the fastest 800 by a Bentley woman since 1994, elevating her to third on the program's all-time list.

Nichols set a PR of 10:36.68 in the 3,000 meters, placing 15th of 31 overall and first amongst non-Division 1 competitors. Her time ranks fifth on the NE-10 performance list for this season and ninth on Bentley's all-time list.

This weekend, Bentley will compete in the Boston University Valentine's Invitational.
