Trueb Breaks Bentley Record in Mile for 2nd Time in a Week; Varsell Excels for Women's Team

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- For the second time in a week, Bentley University sophomore Curtis Trueb (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester HS) has broken the school indoor record in the mile.

Trueb's latest record-breaking performance came during Saturday's Giegengack Invitational at Yale University. He posted a time of 4:08.12, bettering the mark of 4:09.06 he set at last Saturday's Boston University Terrier Classic by nearly a full second.  Entering this weekend's action, only two Division II runners nationwide had posted a better mile time.

Trueb finished third in the predominantly Division I meet, trailing just a pair of runners from Georgetown University, Ayalew Taye (4:05.62) and Dylan Sorenson (4:08.06).

Also competing in the meet at Yale were sophomore Amy Varsell (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills HS), junior Evelyn Marrero (Amsterdam, N.Y./Amsterdam HS) and freshman Ashley Nichols (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor HS).

Varsell finished third in her heat in the 800 meters and placed 12th of 46 overall. She ran the first 400 in 67.5 seconds en route to a personal best time of 2:17.69, the fourth best recorded by a Northeast-10 runner this winter.

Nichols and Marrero both posted season-best times in the 3,000 meters while placing 15th and 18th overall in a field of 31. Registering times of 10:36.68 and 10:39.99 respectively, they were the only non-Division I runners in the top 25.

Next weekend, Bentley will compete in the Boston University Valentine's Invitational with the women running Friday night and the men going on Saturday.
