Preview: Bentley Matched Up With Adelphi in NE10 Men's Tennis First Round on Saturday

Waltham, Mass. – Bentley drew Adelphi for a first round match in the NE10 Men's Tennis Championships on Saturday. The match will take place in Flushing, N.Y. at the USTA National Tennis Center, beginning at 2:30 pm.

The Falcons are the No. 5 seed in the Men's Tennis Championships and Adelphi the No. 4 seed. The top seed belongs to Le Moyne, which earned a bye to the semifinals. The other first round matchups on Saturday pit No. 2 Southern New Hampshire against No. 7 Saint Michael's, and No. 3 Franklin Pierce against No. 6 Stonehill.

The semifinals are scheduled for Tuesday, April 27 and the finals on Saturday, May 1. All matches will be hosted by the higher seed.

Bentley and Adelphi met once in the regular season, and it was a close one with the Panthers taking a narrow 4-3 victory on April 6.

The Panthers won the doubles point, but Bentley nearly rallied in singles by winning three of the six matches.

Falcons senior Connor Aulson (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket) defeated Adelphi's Pietro Sole in three sets in the No. 2 match. Aulson won the first set 6-2 and Sole took the second 6-2. Aulson then took the decisive third set, 11-9, to win the match.

Freshman Max Bonte (Bradenton, Fla./Saint Stephens) similarly outlasted Adelphi's Valentin Goupil-Maier in three sets in the No. 3 position. Bonte grabbed the first set 6-2 before Gpoupil-Maier sent the match to a third set with a 6-4 win in the second. But in the final set, Bonte emerged with a 10-3 win to give Bentley the point.

Bentley's other win in singles came from senior Mauricio Fadul (Miami, Fla.) in No. 6 over Henrique Souza by a 6-4, 6-0 score.

The Falcons have a streak of 13 straight trips to the NE10 Semifinals, or better, coming into this season's tournament. The last time the tournament was contested in the 2018-19 season, Bentley fell in the semifinal round to Merrimack. They did, however, receive a bid to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2011-12 season.
