Chestnut Hill Prevails Over Bentley 4-0 in NCAA East Regional

Bronxville, N.Y. – Chestnut Hill College prevailed over Bentley University 4-0 in the first round of the NCAA Men's Tennis East Regional on Saturday afternoon.

Chestnut Hill, the No. 4 seed in the East Region, won the doubles point by a narrow margin, then was able to win three singles matches to clinch the victory over the No. 5 seed Falcons. The Griffins, out of the CACC, improved their record to 18-6 on the season and advance on to face the East Region's top seed Concordia tomorrow.

The Falcons' season comes to a close at 15-9 after they made the program's first NCAA appearance since the 2011-12 season.

Bentley won the No. 2 doubles match behind the team of sophomores Connor Aulson (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket) and Daniel Weitz (Roslyn, N.Y./Roslyn). They defeated Antonie Gautier and Adam Gavin by a 6-2 score.

The two doubles matches Bentley did not win, could have gone either way. The No. 3 match went to a tiebreak that Chestnut Hill's team of Jesus Darias and Kai Adler emerged victorious from 9-7. They overcame Bentley's team of senior Nick Hatcher (Danbury, Conn./Immaculate) and Mauricio Fadul (Key Biscayne, Fla.) to win the match 7-6 (9-7).

The No. 1 doubles match was decided only by one broken service game. The Griffins' Tom Pitchley and Erik Jorsal slipped past Bentley's Dylan Granat (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) and Michael Fuca (Manchester, Mass./Manchester-Essex) 6-4.

In singles, Chestnut Hill won the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5 matches before Bentley could respond. In No. 1, Pitchley won the first set over Granat 6-0, before Granat fought back in the 2nd set, but Pitchley clinched it by a 6-4 score.

In No. 3, Bentley's Fuca and CHC's Gautier battled in the first set, but Gautier won it 6-4. He then clinched the match with a 6-1 victory in the 2nd set.

The No. 5 match was contested between Bentley's Kendall Au (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) and CHC's Adler. Au dropped the first set 6-0, fought back in the 2nd set but couldn't quite get over the hump and Adler took the set 6-4.

The No. 2 match between Bentley's Weitz and the Griffins' Darias was headed to a third set tiebreak but was unable to finish. Darias won the first set 6-4 and Weitz the second set 6-4. The third set was tied 6-6 before the overall match was clinched.

The No. 4 match between Bentley's Aulson and CHC's Jorsal went unfinished after the first set, and the No. 6 match between Bentley's Alex Novins (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) and CHC's Gavin went unfinished as well.
