Doubles Matches the Difference as Merrimack Clips Bentley 4-3

Waltham, Mass. – Bentley and Merrimack split the six singles matches, but it was the doubles point that the Warriors won that was the difference as they clipped the Falcons 4-3 on Tuesday afternoon in their final match of the regular season.

Merrimack took a 1-0 lead after they won all three doubles matches, and they held Bentley to a split of singles to hang on for the 4-3 victory. Four of the six singles matches went to three sets.

Bentley's Dylan Granat (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset), Connor Aulson (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket) and Mauricio Fadul (Key Biscayne, Fla.) were the winners in singles for the home side.

Granat won the No. 1 match over Denis Davydov, 6-3, 7-5. Aulson took No. 4 over Conrad Koch 6-3, 4-6, 7-5. Fadul bested Andre Singer in No. 6, 6-4, 6-3.

The three singles matches Merrimack won were all in straight sets. Jonathan Garcia edged Daniel Weitz (Roslyn, N.Y./Roslyn) in No. 2, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2. Senior Michael Fuca (Manchester, Mass./Manchester-Essex) won the first set in No. 3 against Alex Fedorov 6-2, but Fedorov rallied in the final two sets 7-6, 6-1. In No. 5, junior Kendall Au (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) and Mackay Rodriguez split the first two sets with Rodriguez winning the first set 7-6 and Au the second 6-4, but Rodriguez got the third set 6-2.

Bentley was handed just its second NE10 defeat of the season, which dropped its conference record to 7-2, while Warriors improved to 7-0.

Bentley will be the No. 3 seed in the NE10 playoffs, and will wait to see who its opponent will be in the first round on April 30.
