Weitz’s Win in No. 2 Singles Gives Bentley 4-3 Win over Stonehill

 

Easton, Mass. – Sophomore Daniel Weitz (Roslyn, N.Y./Roslyn) rallied in the 3rd set in No. 2 singles to give Bentley the clinching point in its 4-3 win at Stonehill on Friday afternoon.

Weitz and his opponent Sam Miller split the first two sets, with Weitz winning the first set 6-3 and Miller the second set 6-2. Miller then jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the deciding third set, but Weitz won four games in a row to take the set 6-4 and the match, and to give Bentley the victory.

Bentley won three other singles matches to win four of the six. Michael Fuca (Manchester, Mass./Manchester-Essex) defeated Russell White in No. 3 in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5. Connor Aulson (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket) cruised past Vincent Huynh in No. 4, 6-1, 6-0. Freshman Alexander Novins (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) then knocked off Aaron Diamond 6-3, 6-1 in No. 6.

Stonehill won two of three doubles matches to take the doubles point and a 1-0 lead. Bentley's team of Nick Hatcher (Danbury, Conn./Immaculate) and Mauricio Fadul (Key Biscayne, Fla.) won the No. 3 match, 6-1.

The win improved Bentley's NE10 record to 3-0 and 10-4 overall, and is the team's 3rd win in a row. They will look to keep the winning streak going tomorrow when they host Le Moyne for a 2:00 pm match.
