Bentley Sweeps Doubles, but MIT Rallies in Singles in Spring Opener

Cambridge, Mass. – The Bentley men's tennis team won all three doubles matches in its spring season opening match against MIT, but the Engineers rallied in singles for a 5-4 victory on Wednesday.

Bentley won all three doubles matches, but MIT took five of six in singles to take the match.

Bentley's No. 1 doubles pairing on the day of Dylan Granat (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) and Connor Aulson (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket) defeated Tyler Barr and Alex Cauneac 6-3. The No. 2 pairing of seniors Michael Fuca (Manchester, Mass./Manchester-Essex) and Brett Gilman (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) were 6-1 winners over Albert Go and Michael Zhao, and the No. 3 team of Daniel Weitz (Roslyn, N.Y./Roslyn) and Kendall Au (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) defeated Henry La Soya and Sean Ko by a 6-4 score.

Aulson was a double winner on the day when he claimed a 6-3, 6-3 win in the No. 4 singles match over Charles Deng. But MIT was able to fight its way to wins in the other five matches, including a close one in No. 2 between Weitz and Cauneac, which was won by the Engineers 7-6, 7-5.

Bentley (2-2) will continue its season opening week on Friday night when they host the Villanova Wildcats at the Bass River Tennis Club in Beverly. The match gets started at 7:00 pm.
