Bentley Trio Win Singles Tournaments at UConn Invitational

Storrs, Conn. – Bentley sophomores Connor Aulson (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket) and Daniel Weitz (Roslyn, N.Y./Roslyn), and freshman Alexander Novins each claimed singles consolation tournament titles at the UConn Invitational to conclude the team's weekend.

Weitz won the A consolation tournament, Aulson the B consolation and Novins the D consolation. Bentley had a strong presence in these tournaments, as the B and D finals were all Falcon affairs; Auslon defeated teammate Michael Fuca (Manchester, Mass./Manchester-Essex), and Novins went over sophomore Mauricio Fadul (Key Biscayne, Fla./Asuncion) in the finals.

Weitz defeated two Division I players on his way to the title. He first defeated Sacred Heart's Seoji Hosokawa 9-8 to advance to the final match, where he then knocked off Fairfield University's Lewis Edwards 8-6.

Aulson and Fuca also defeated Division I players. Aulson was an 8-2 winner over Holy Cross' Peter Campito in the first round of the B consolation tournament, then got the better of Fairfield's Jeff Rodgers 8-1 to advance to the finals. Fuca first received a bye, then knocked off Fairfield's Allan Magid 8-3, to set up the all Bentley final, which Aulson emerged victorious in, 8-1.

Novins and Fadul both won matches over players from Division I Holy Cross to advance to the finals. Novins defeated Matt Fagan 8-1, and Fadul was an 8-3 winner over Mike Varda. Novins then took the final over his teammate by a 7-2 score.

With three title in tow, Bentley departs the UConn Invitational, and will next be on the courts on Sept. 26 at Clark University.
