Weitz and Au Highlight Bentley’s Day 1 at UConn Invitational

Waltham, Mass. – The doubles team of Kendall Au (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) and Daniel Weitz (Roslyn, N.Y./Roslyn) highlighted Bentley's efforts on Day 1 of the UConn Invitational.

The pair won two matches over Division I teams to advance to the semifinals of the B doubles tournament. In the first round, they defeated Sacred Heart's Chao and Einstoss 6-2, and followed that up with a 6-4 quarterfinals win over Boston University's Ethan Kolsky and Satyajit Simhadri. Their run though came to an end in the semifinals, where they were tripped up by Quinnipiac's Alester Magalit and Bryan Schick, 6-2.

Bentley's other entry in this tournament, the team of newcomers Alexander Novins and Mauricio Fadul (Key Biscayne, Fla./Asuncion) won their first round match over Holy Cross' Michael Varda and Matthew Fagan 6-1, before they were felled in the quarters by BU's JP Avila and Pedro Gutierrez.

In the A doubles tournament, Dylan Granat (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) and Connor Aulson (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket) won their first round match over UConn's Jack McLister and Josh Samuel 6-2, before they dropped a close 7-6 decision to Sacred Heart's Wibmer and Casalduc.

The singles tournaments also got underway, with senior Brett Gilman (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) winning his first round match over UConn's Joshua Samuel 6-3, 2-6, 12-10 in the C tournament, before play was halted for the day.

In the other tournaments, Weitz and Granat are entered into the A tournament, Aulson is in the B tournament, Au is in the C tournament and Fadul and Novins are in the D tournament.
