WALTHAM, Mass. - A total of nine student-athletes from the Bentley University women's and men's tennis teams were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, it was announced recently. Both squads were also named an All-Academic team by the ITA.

To be named a Scholar-Athlete, a player must have a GPA of at least 3.50 for the current academic year. The All-Academic team award is given to any squad that had a cumulative GPA of 3.20 for the academic year.

From the women's side, the six named a Scholar-Athlete were Katie Brandow (East Northport, N.Y./Northport), Hannah Fabianski (Pawcatuck, Conn./Stonington), Corrie MacLean (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull), Rachel Madden (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford), Olivia von Oldenburg (Austin, Texas/Vandegrift) and Evann Welty (Wayzata, Minn./Mount Westonka).

From the men's team, it was recent graduates Brendan McCarthy (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) and George Samander (Willemstad, Curacao) and rising junior Kendall Au (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex).

Brandow majored in accounting and posted an overall singles record off 11-6 last season, with a 6-4 mark in Northeast-10 matches. She was a Scholar-Athlete in 2016-17 as well.

Fabianski is a rising senior with a major in management. On the court she was Bentley's primary No. 1 singles player, with a 9-6 record in that flight. She is a Scholar-Athlete for the third straight year.

MacLean graduated in May with a major in accounting and earned Scholar-Athlete status for the second straight year. She won 75 percent of her singles matches during the 2017-18 season, with wins over NE10 rivals AIC and Franklin Pierce included.

Madden graduated in just three years from Bentley with a major in actuarial science, and was a Scholar-Athlete all three of her seasons.  She helped Bentley to wins over AIC and Franklin Pierce during the 17-18 season with wins in doubles in those matches.

Von Oldenburg was a team co-captain for the Falcons during the 2017-18 season. She graduated in May with a major in computer information systems and was a Scholar-Athlete three years in a row. Von Oldenburg was 5-4 in singles play last season with wins over NE10 rivals Saint Rose and AIC included.

McCarthy was a co-captain for the men's team this past season, and was Bentley's primary No. 1 singles player during his career. He was also part of the No. 1 doubles team with George Samander, and helped the Falcons reach the semifinals of the NE10 Tournament this season. He graduated in May with a major in economics and earned Scholar-Athlete status for the second time.

Samander was co-captain as well, and was Bentley's primary No. 2 singles player in his career, along with forming the No. 1 doubles team with McCarthy. This past season he was second on the team in overall singles wins (16), and went 13-7 in No. 2 matches. He also graduated in May, with a major in management and is a Scholar-Athlete for the third time.

Au has now been named a Scholar-Athlete in each of his first two years at Bentley. A corporate finance and accounting major, he was 10-4 in singles overall, while also formed an effective doubles team with Nick Hatcher, as the pair went 8-5.

Overall, the men's won 15 matches during the 17-18 season and advanced to the NE10 semifinals, while the women's team tied a program record with 15 wins for the second straight year.
