Bentley Controls Singles Play to Top Holy Cross 6-1

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley men's tennis team won five of six singles matches to knock off Division I Holy Cross in a non-conference matchup between the two teams on Sunday.

The Falcons' strong play in singles came on the heels of winning two of three doubles matches to seize that point.

Bentley's efforts in singles were highlighted by senior George Samander (Willemstad, Curacao) winning the No. 1 match Tom Cimini 8-2. Junior Michael Fuca (Manchester, Mass./Manchester-Essex) claimed a decisive win in the No. 2 match, 8-1 over Matt Slowinksi.

Freshman Connor Aulson (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket) pushed his singles record to x-x with an 8-3 win over Matt Murphy in the No. 4 match. Sophomore Kendall Au (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) and junior Brett Gilman (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) were victorious as well in singles. Au topped Andrew Vroman 8-2 in No. 5, and Gilman got the better of Michael Varda 8-4 in No. 6.

In doubles, the team that won the majority of the matches was awarded a single point. That went to Bentley after they took the No. 1 and 2 matches. Samander and Brendan McCarthy (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) defeated Cimini and Vroman 8-1, and Aulson and Weitz knocked off Campito and Slowinksi 8-4.

The win improved Bentley's record to 13-7. They will play one more non-conference match against Brandeis on Wednesday before closing out the regular season with big NE10 matches against Southern N.H. and Adelphi.
