Bentley Powers Past Saint Anselm in 9-0 Sweep

MILFORD, N.H. – Three different players won both of their matches to lead the Bentley men's tennis team to a 9-0 sweep of Saint Anselm on Wednesday at the indoor Hampshire Hills Athletic Club.

Brendan McCarthy (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth), George Samander (Willemstad, Curacao) and Michael Fuca (Manchester, Mass./Manchester-Essex) all won twice for the Falcons.

McCarthy and Samander teamed for an 8-2 win in No. 1 doubles over Kyle Harris and Eric Howes, while Fuca teamed with Brett Gilman (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) for a 9-8 (8-6) victory in No. 2 doubles over Adam Weinstein and Brian Kavanagh.

In singles, McCarthy beat Howes in the No. 1 match in two sets, 6-0, 6-2 for his second win of the day, while Samander got the better of Weinstein in the No. 2 match, 6-3, 6-4. Fuca defeat Daniel Kmetz in the No. 4 match and dropped just one game, 6-1, 6-0.

Bentley's other winners in singles were Daniel Weitz (Roslyn, N.Y./Roslyn) in the No. 3 match, Kendall Au (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) in the No. 5 match and Nick Hatcher (Danbury, Conn./Immaculate) in the No. 6 match. Weitz defeated Kavanagh 6-1, 6-0, Au knocked off Kyle Harris 6-3, 6-1 and Hatcher defeated Benji Page 6-4, 6-3.

The Falcons improved 10-6 overall with the win and evened their NE10 record at 2-2. They are back in action tomorrow to host Stonehill at 3:00 pm.
