Samander & McCarthy Advanced to Doubles Quarterfinals at ITA East Regionals

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Bentley University's team of George Samander (Willemstad, Curacao) and Brendan McCarthy (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) advanced to the quarterfinals in doubles at the ITA East Regional tournament over the weekend in Flushing, N.Y., to lead the men's tennis team's efforts.

The pair, who were seeded 14th in the 32 team draw, won their two matches 8-0 to advance to the quarterfinals, before they fell to the No. 6 seed of Lucas Martinez and Gabriel Mendez of Queens College in the quarterfinals 8-4.

In singles, Samander, junior Nick Hatcher (Danbury, Conn./Immaculate), freshman Connor Aulson (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket) and junior Dylan Granat (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) all won two matches in qualifying to advance to the main draw of 64 players. Samander defeated Dan Longtin of Franklin Pierce 8-0 and Guido Janssen of Roger Williams 8-3.

Hatcher knocked off Jose Williamson of Daemen 8-5 and Ludwig Henrikson of Post 8-3, before a tough defeat to the top seed Matej Selecky in the main draw.

Aulson defeated Benji Page of Saint Anselm 8-3 and Hallam Doney from Le Moyne 8-6. While Granat saw off Joao Mercal of Jefferson 8-2, and Tomer Mendler of Concordia 8-1 to advance to the main draw.

After two straight tournaments to begin the season, Bentley will now turn its attention towards playing Salem State on the road on Wednesday.
