Bentley Men’s Tennis Opens Season at UConn Invitational

STORRS, Conn. – For the second straight season the Bentley University men's tennis team got its fall season underway at the UConn Invitational, which featured a host of Division I teams and Northeast-10 rival Merrimack. Four single elimination singles tournaments and two doubles tournaments were contested.

In the "A" flight singles tournament, Falcons senior Brendan McCarthy (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) won his first round match over Holy Cross' Matt Slowinski 6-1, 7-6, before he fell in the next round to Quinnipiac's Julian Rosenstein 7-5, 6-2.

The "B" singles tournament saw newcomer Daniel Weitz (Roslyn, N.Y./Roslyn) pick up a 6-4, 2-6, 10-6 first round victory over UConn's Justin Warren, before being defeated by Boston University's Marc Sable, 7-5, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. Also in this flight, junior Dylan Granat (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) suffered a 6-4, 6-2 quarterfinal defeat to BU's Owen Lu

Two Falcons won first round matches in the "C" singles competition. Freshman Connor Aulson (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket) defeated Merrimack's Alex Slobin 6-1, 6-1, and sophomore Kendall Au (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) eliminated Holy Cross' Matt Murphy by a 6-0, 6-1 score. Both Falcons, however, saw their runs come to an end in the quarterfinals. Aulson to BU's David Bogatin in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 10-4, and Au to Quinnipiac's Austin Yannone in three sets as well, 6-3, 2-6, 10-6.

In the "D" singles tournament, junior Nick Hatcher (Danbury, Conn./Immaculate) suffered a 6-2, 6-4 defeat to BU's Ethan Kolsky.

The Falcons are next in competition in another tournament, as they will head to the ITA East Regionals in Flushing, N.Y., next weekend.
