McCarthy & Samander Win in Doubles, but Bentley Falls to MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Bentley juniors George Samander (Willemstad, Curacao/ISC) and Brendan McCarthy (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) won the No. 1 doubles match, but the visiting Falcons were defeated by MIT in a non-conference match 8-1 on Wednesday at the J.B. Carr Tennis Bubble in Cambridge.

Bentley's No. 1 doubles team of McCarthy and Samander were 8-3 winners over MIT's team of Alex Cauneac and Bryan Lilley. MIT however, was able to win the No. 2 and No. 3 matches to take a 2-1 lead into the singles portion of the match

MIT won five of the six singles matches in straight sets. Bentley sophomore Brett Gilman (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) took his opponent in the No. 5 match, Albert Go, to three sets, but ultimately fell 2-6, 6-3, 10-7.

The Falcons fell to 2-3 on the season, while the Engineers improved to 3-0. Bentley's next match is on Saturday against Merrimack at the Cedardale Athletic Club in Haverhill.
