Samander Wins Twice in Spring Break Trip Opener

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Sophomore George Samander (Willemstad, Curacao/ISC) was Bentley's standout performer on Monday vs. St. Cloud State, but the men's tennis team dropped its spring break trip opener 5-4 to the Huskies.

Samander, the Northeast-10 Player of the Week on March 1, first teamed with classmate Brendan McCarthy (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) for an 8-2 win in the No. 1 doubles match. St. Cloud would win the No. 2 and 3 doubles matches for a 2-1 advantage going into singles play.

Samander was one of three Falcons to win in singles, as he took a 7-5, 6-4 victory in the No. 3 match. The other two winners for Bentley were freshman Michael Fuca (Manchester, Mass./Manchester-Essex) in the No. 4 match and junior Chase Rosa (Hampton, N.H./Berwick) in the No 5 spot. Fuca rallied after dropping the first set to take it 3-6 6-4, 11-9, while Rosa dropped just one game, 6-1, 6-0.

The defeat is just the team's second of the season to make them 7-2. The spring break trip continues tomorrow at Florida Tech.
