Merrimack Moves Past Bentley 5-1 in Northeast-10 Semifinals

MIDDLETON, Mass. – Top seed Merrimack moved on to the finals of the Northeast-10 Men's Tennis Championship with a 5-1 win over No. 4 seed Bentley in the semifinals on Thursday afternoon at the Northeast Tennis Center.

Bentley, which advanced to the semis with a 5-4 victory over Assumption in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, drops to a 13-8 record on the season. Merrimack, which went 10-0 in the NE-10 regular season, advances to the finals for the fourth straight time, where they will meet Adelphi.

Bentley's doubles team of Brendan McCarthy (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) and George Samander (Willemstad, Curacao/ISC) won their 14th match of the season, 8-3 over Miguel Belfort and Vince Bellino in the No. 2 match to give the Falcons their point.

Merrimack though won the other two doubles matches. Sophomore Steven Francis and freshman Mikhail Belov defeated senior Alex DeMuth (Shaker Heights, Ohio/University School) and junior Kamil Pilch (Wroclaw, Poland/IMG) 8-4 in the No. 1 match. In the No. 3 match, it was sophomore Nick Majewski and freshman Frank Vega defeating junior Sam Frye (Redlands, Calif./Redlands) and sophomore Chase Rosa (Hampton, N.H./Berwick) 8-0.

The three singles matches that finished saw Francis top Pilch in the No. 1 match 6-2, 6-0. Belov defeated Samander 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 3 match, and Vega defeated freshman Daniel Camacho (Bogota, Columbia/CNG) 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 5 match.
