Bentley Set to Open NE-10 Championship vs. Assumption

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley will open up the Northeast-10 Men's Tennis Championship on Tuesday afternoon at home against Assumption in a quarterfinal match after finishing the regular season with a 7-3 conference record. The match is set to get started at 2:00 pm.

The Falcons will be the No. 4 seed against the No. 5 seed Greyhounds. Bentley won the regular season meeting 7-2 on April 2 behind two out of three wins in doubles play, and five out of six wins in singles play.

Bentley will be looking for its first NE-10 title since 2011, when they claimed the second of back-to-back championships.

In that win over Assumption earlier in the year, the freshmen tandem of Brendan McCarthy (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) and George Samander (Willemstad, Curacao/ISC) each had two wins. They won the No. 2 doubles match, part of an 8-1 record in NE-10 matches they enjoyed this season.

Samander ended up leading the team in NE-10 singles wins with a 7-2 mark, with one of those victories coming in the No. 3 match in the regular season meeting with Assumption. McCarthy and sophomore Chase Rosa (Hampton, N.H./Berwick) each posted 6-3 NE-10 singles records. They were both winners on that day as well, McCarthy in the No. 2 match and Rosa in the No. 4 match.

Junior Evan Chomka (Warwick, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) and Felipe Palacios (Bogota, Columbia/CNG) also picked up singles wins in the regular season meeting, in the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, respectively.

The winner of Tuesday's match will advance to the semifinals, where top seed Merrimack awaits on Thursday. The Warriors claimed their fifth straight regular season title and went 10-0 in conference matches. The other first round match on Tuesday pits No. 3 seed Stonehill against No. 6 seed Le Moyne, with the winner getting No. 2 seed Adelphi in the semifinals.

The championship match will take place on Saturday at the highest remaining seed.
