McCarthy Wins Marathon, But Bentley Falls to Marian (Ind.)

ORLANDO, Fla. – Freshman Brendan McCarthy (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) won a marathon singles match for the Bentley men's tennis team, but the Falcons were beaten by Marian University 7-2 on Thursday in a non-conference match in Orlando.

McCarthy's No. 2 singles match against Jack Hiatt went three sets and lasted three and a half fours. Hiatt won the first set with a lengthy tiebreaker 7-6 (15-13). But McCarthy rallied to take the second set 7-5, and then won the third set 10-6.

McCarthy and freshmen George Samander (Willemstad, Curacao/ISC) also picked up a win for Bentley in No. 2 doubles. They defeated Jason Denton and Taylor Kinney 8-4.

The Falcons drop to 5-3 on the season, while Marian goes to 16-1. Bentley concludes its spring break trip on Saturday when they visit Eckerd College for a 10:00 am match.
