Marian Uses Singles Play to Top Bentley 6-3

ORLANDO, Fla. – Marian University (Ind.) won five of six singles matches, as they defeated the Bentley men's tennis team 6-3 on Sunday in the Falcons' spring break trip opener. Bentley won two doubles matches in the second and third flights.

Bentley took a 2-1 lead after winning two of the three doubles matches. The team of senior Jimmy Rindo (Lowell, Mass./Lowell) and sophomore Sam Frye (Redlands, Calif./Redlands) were 8-4 winners in the second-flight match. They defeated Danny Albert and Ryan Heuer. Senior Andrew Waddington (Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial) and freshman Chase Rosa (Hampton, N.H./Berwick Academy) were 8-4 winners in the third-flight over Taylor Kinney and Nick Batuello.

Marian though prevented a sweep of doubles in the top-flight match, as Marty Pochop and Jason Denton defeated Kamil Pilch (Wroclaw, Poland/IMG Pendleton) and Alex DeMuth (Shaker Heights, Ohio/University School) 8-4.

Sophomore Evan Chomka (Warwick, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) was Bentley's lone victor in singles. He defeated Heuer in the fifth-flight after dropping the first set, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.

The defeat drops Bentley's record to 4-2 on the season, while Marion improves to 10-8. The Falcons continue their spring break trip tomorrow when they take on Webber International.
