WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior Andrew Waddington (Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial) won the decisive singles match as the Bentley University men's tennis team defeated Southern New Hampshire 5-4 on Saturday.

The win means Bentley, with a 7-2 record in the Northeast-10, will get a bye to the semifinals as the No. 2 seed in next week's Northeast-10 Championships. That match will be next Friday afternoon at Bentley. The Penmen, which drop to 7-2 in the NE-10, will be the No. 3 seed in the tournament.

The Falcons started strong with two wins in doubles. Senior Rodrigo Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Chapel School) and freshman Kamil Pilch (Wroclaw, Poland/ING Pendleton) won the No. 1 match over Mike Wallace and Mitch Dobek, 9-7. Senior Lucas Wever (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Chapel School) and junior Jimmy Rindo (Lowell, Mass./Lowell) took the No. 3 match over Alex Mukdaprakorn and Tim Hamilton, 8-1.

Southern took the top three singles matches, with the closest being Dobek emerging victorious over Ribeiro in the No. 1 match in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. The No. 5 match was won by Wever, 6-0, 6-0 over Brad Malenich, and the No. 6 match was taken by freshman Evan Chomka (Warwick, R.I./Bishop Hendricken), 6-3, 6-4 over Evan Eaton.

It came down to Waddington against Mukdaprakorn in the No. 4 match. Mukdaprakorn won the first set easily 6-1, but Waddington fought back and won the next two sets 6-3, 6-4 to give Bentley the match.
