Spycher, Waddington Lead Solid Effort for Bentley Men During Day 1 of ITA Regional
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Junior Alec Spycher (Sarasota, Fla./Saint Stephens Episcopal HS) and freshman Andrew Waddington (Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial HS) remain alive in both singles and doubles play after Saturday's first day of competition at the ITA Men's Tennis East Regional at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center.
The duo, seeded fourth in the "B" Division doubles, drew a first-round bye and defeated James Shelp and Daryl Johnson of Le Moyne, 8-0, to advance to the semifinals. Both also advanced in singles, with Spycher ousting Juan Farah (Chestnut Hill), 6-2, 6-3 in the "A" Division and Waddington receiving a first-round bye in the "B" Division.
Also winning matches to advance in the "B" singles were junior Matthew Chase (Dover, Mass./ Dover-Sherborn HS), junior Jigar Gada (Mumbai, India) and freshman Jimmy Rindo (Lowell, Mass./Lowell HS). Sophomore Rodrigo Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) is also still alive in "B" singles after an opening round bye.
The tournament will continue on Sunday morning.
