Zoda Repeats as Northeast-10 Men’s Swimming Rookie of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – For the second straight time, Bentley University freshman Mark Zoda (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin HS) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Swimming Rookie of the Week.

During the Gompei Invitational at WPI last weekend, Zoda finished sixth in the 50 yard freestyle (21.48), eighth in the 200 free (1:44.72), ninth in the 100 free (47.57) and 17th in the 100 breaststoke (1:00.68). The 200 free time was an NE10 season best and he also swam the second-fastest 100 free and the third-fastest 50 free. Zoda also broke an 11-year-old school record in the 100 individual medley with a 53.90.

In the relays, he helped the Falcons post the NE10's fastest times of the year in the 200 medley (1:35.04), the 800 free (7:07.02) and the 200 free (1:26.03) as well as the second fastest in the 400 medley (3:34.68).

Zoda and Bentley also received the Men's Relay Team of the Week Award for their efforts at WPI. With senior Ryan McGeary (Paramus, N.J./Bergen Catholic HS) anchoring for Zoda and two other freshman, Bentley swam the NE10's fastest 200 medley relay of the year, finishing eighth overall in 1:35.04. Ellis Sartorio (Mountainside, N.J./Academy for Information Technology) led off and was followed by Zoda and Zach Papsco (Northport, N.Y./Northport HS). That was a conference-best by about two seconds.

The NE10 Weekly Honor Roll included Bentley senior Kate Kaduboski (Dedham/Dedham HS). She finished in the top five of three individual events with times of 2:07.27 in the 200 back (5th), 2:09.35 in the 200 individual medley (4th) and 4:36.67 in the 400 IM (3rd). All those times were the second fastest recorded in the NE10 so far this season. Her weekend also included breaking a school record in the 100 IM (1:00.17), placing 15th in the 100 back (59.75) and participating in four relays. Her highest relay finish was a fourth in the 800 free (7:51.20). The times in all the relays ranked among the NE10's three fastest all season.

Bentley concludes the first-semester portion of the schedule Saturday at Norwich.
