Men’s School Record & 4th by Kaduboski Among Bentley Highlights at WPI

WORCESTER, Mass. – A school record-breaking performance in the men's 200 yard mediey relay and a fourth-place finish by senior Kate Kaduboski (Dedham/Dedham HS) were among the highlights for the Bentley University men's and women's swimming and diving teams during the opening day of the Gompei Invitational Friday night at WPI's Sport and Recreation Center.

Bentley concluded day one fifth among 15 teams with a combined men's and women's score of 1068.5 points. Rowan University is at the top of the standings with 1501.5 points with Bryant University second, 82.5 off the pace.

In the 200 medley relay, senior Ryan McGeary (Paramus, N.J./Bergen Catholic HS) was the anchor as Bentley finished ninth in 1:35.04, the best clocking in the Northeast-10 so far this season. Freshman swam the opening three legs with Ellis Sartorio (Mountainside, N.J./Academy for Information Technology) followed by Mark Zoda (Nashua, N.H./ Bishop Guetin HS) and Zach Papsco (Northport, N.Y./Northport HS).

Their effort broke the record of 1:35.23 that included assistant coach Joe Frantel and had stood since 2012.

Kaduboski had Bentley's highest individual finish with her 2:09.35 in the 200 individual medley second best in the NE10 this season. She was the number two qualifier in the prelims with a 2:10.61.

Senior Melissa Viator (Lubbock, Texas/Lubbock HS) swam to sixth in the women's 1650 free, her time of 17:56.83 third best on the NE10 performance list.

Bentley also received a sixth in the men's 50 free from Zoda, who touched in 21.48 seconds, number two in the NE10 to date. Also in the 100, sophomore Paul Homorodean (Milford, Conn./Joseph A. Foran HS) was tenth in 21.63.

Of the team's 1068.5 points, 128 came in the women's 800 free relay with the Falcons having two of the top eight quartets. Viator, Kaduboski, junior Paige MacNeil (Branford, Conn./Branford HS) and senior Brooke Jameson (Bedford/Bedford HS) were fourth (7:51.20, 2nd best NE10) while the Falcons' B relay took eighth in 8:00.92. Those four were sophomore Julia Ball (Phoenix, Md./Roland Park Country School), freshmen Rona Mejiritski (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green HS) and Emily Sweet (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North HS) and senior Hannah Rauch (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park HS).

In the men's 800 free relay, a time of 7:07.02 was good for seventh place. Senior Frank Elenio (Ridgefield, N.J./Bergen County Academies) led off and was followed by freshman Andrew D'Annolfo (Chestnut Hill/Newton South HS), Zoda and McGeary.

Prelims for the men's three-meter diving were held at Clark University with freshman Owen Busser (Chelmsford/Chelmsford HS) with a 271.70.

Action on Saturday gets underway with prelims at 9 am and finals at 5 pm.
