WORCESTER, Mass. – With a gold medal, two silvers and three school records in a total of four events, the Bentley University Falcons turned in an impressive opening night as the Northeast-10 Conference Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships got underway Thursday night at WPI's Sport and Recreation Center.

The Bentley women made it a three-peat as NE10 champions in the 800 yard freestyle relay with juniors Brooke Jameson (Bedford/Bedford HS) and Kate Kaduboski (Dedham/Dedham HS) combining with senior Emily Niemiec (Meriden, Conn./Francis T. Maloney HS) and sophomore Paige MacNeil (Branford, Conn./Branford HS) for a winning time of 7:38.06. They got to the wall 2.59 seconds ahead of runner-up Southern Connecticut State.

In the men's 4x800, Bentley finished second, about five seconds back of Southern Connecticut, but broke the school record of 6:52.86 that it set in 2017. Juniors Frank Elenio (Ridgefield, N.J./Bergen County Academies) and Ryan McGeary (Paramus, N.J./Bergen Catholic HS) teamed with sophomore Jarod Yoshihara (Irvine, Calif./University HS) and senior Jonny Boains (Unionville, Conn./Farmington HS) for a clocking of 6:51.63, improving on the previous standard by more than a second,

The Bentley women lost to Southern Connecticut by about two-tenths of a second in the 200 medley relay despite a school record 1:46.06. The quartet of MacNeil, Niemiec, senior Anne Warren (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron School) and Kaduboski bettered a standard that had stood since 2012 by 1.03 seconds.

During that relay, MacNeil broke Kaduboski's two-year-old school record in the 50 yard backstroke by 0.65 seconds with a 26.99.

Bentley's other school record came in the men's 200 medley relay with Boains, senior Christopher Vukas (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS), freshman Paul Homorodean (Milford, Conn./Joseph A. Foran HS) and sophomore Alper Alkaya (Milan, Italy) finishing fifth in 1:35.15.  That improved on a six-year-old record by eight-hundredths of a second.

The Bentley women finished the first night tied with Assumption for first place, both with 124 points, and the Falcon men stand in second after two events, trailing Southern Connecticut 116-90.

The championships continue on Friday with prelims at 10 am and finals at 6 pm.
