Bentley Remains 5th in Gompei Invitational Through Day 2

WORCESTER, Mass. – Day two of the Gompei Invitational at Worcester Polytechnic Institute concluded Saturday with the Bentley University men's and women's swimming and diving teams remaining in fifth place. The meet will conclude on Sunday with prelims in the morning and finals during the evening session.

The host WPI Engineers will carry the lead into the final day, 3,527-3,501.5 over Rowan University. Bentley, with 2,044, trails fourth place Stevens Institute of Technology by more than 800 points and is 182 ahead of sixth place Assumption College. A total of 13 teams are competing.

Bentley's top day two finisher was junior Kate Kaduboski (Dedham/Dedham HS) with a third in the 400 yard individual medley (4:33.99). Also in the 400 IM, senior Emily Niemiec (Meriden, Conn./Francis T. Maloney HS) was seventh in 4:38.13.

Those two helped Bentley place in a pair of relays as well. They partnered with senior Anne Warren (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron HS) and sophomore Paige MacNeil (Branford, Conn./Branford HS) for fifth in the 400 medley relay (4:01.54) and with MacNeil and freshman Emily LaRovere (Lynnfield/Phillips Exeter) for eighth in the 200 free relay (1:39.59).

MacNeil swam to a fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:56.39) and sixth in the 100 backstroke (58.77). Also in the swim events, freshman Emily Barno (Ballston Spa, N.Y./ Ballston Spa HS) was tenth in the 50 back (28.92).

Sophomore Caroline Logozzo (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield HS) placed in both diving disciplines, finishing fourth off the one-meter board (340.55) and sixth from the three-meter (326.10).

The top finisher for the Bentley men was senior Chris Vukas (Randolph, N.J./ Randolph HS), who was fourth in the 50 back with a 25.20.

Vukas was also part of the Falcons' 200 free relay that finished seventh in 1:28.68, along with sophomore Alper Alkaya (Milan, Italy), senior Jonny Boains (Unionville, Conn./Farmington HS) and junior Ryan McGeary (Paramus, N.J./Bergen Catholic HS).

Sophomore Jared Yoshihara (Irvine, Calif./University HS) finished sixth in the 100 back with a clocking of 54.06.
