NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Following a day in which they set three school records, the Bentley University men's swimming and diving team sits atop the team standings at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship.

Competing at Southern Connecticut State University's Hutchinson Natatorium, Bentley finished Friday's action with a total of 339 points, good for a 12-point lead over the host team. Le Moyne College is third with 254.

Sophomore Frank Elenio (Ridgefield, N.J./Bergen County Academies) broke the school record in the 200 yard individual medley, held by teammate Davis Wilson (Ransom County, Texas/Lubbock HS), by 0.18 seconds with a time of 1:55.95. He nearly matched that in the finals, taking third place with a 1:55.99.

Also in the 200 IM, Wilson was fifth (1:56.40), senior Dennis Witol (Bowie, Md./ Eleanor Roosevelt HS) took eighth (1:58.79) and junior Jonny Boains (Unionville, Conn./Farmington HS) was the consolation champion (1:56.13).

Elenio and Wilson also helped Bentley to a fifth-place finish and a school record in the 400 medley relay. They combined with freshman Jarod Yoshihara (Irvine, Calif./University HS) and sophomore Ryan McGeary (Paramus, N.J./Bergen Catholic HS) for a time of 3:29.34, an improvement of 1.34 seconds over a two-year-old Bentley record.

While competing on Bentley's B relay in the 400 medley, junior Chris Vukas (Randolph, N.J./ Randolph HS) broke the school record in the 100 backstroke, posting a time of 52.00 seconds. That was an improvement of 0.53 over that time Tim Connolly achieved at last year's championships.

McGeary came close to a school record in the 500 free, missing by 0.23 seconds after finishing second in 4:36.95, an NCAA B cut time. Also in the 500, freshman Dan Sausto (Slingerlands, N.Y./The Doane Stuart School) took seventh in 4:42.85.

Bentley placed three in the top six in the 50 freestyle, led by senior Liam Bartlett (Syracuse, N.Y./William Nottingham HS) who was fourth in 21.52. Freshman Alper Alkaya (Milan, Italy) was fifth (21.54) and Vukas was sixth (21.56).

In the one-meter diving conducted Thursday night, Bentley senior Greg Coleman (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North HS) earned bronze with 383.05 points. Classmate Nick Cilia (Brentwood, N.H./Exeter HS) followed in fourth (306.90) and freshman Alex Orr (Lincoln/ Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS) was seventh (224.15).

The championships resume at 9:45 am Saturday morning and continue through Sunday evening.
