Sausto & Coleman Post Bentley’s Highest 3rd-Day Finishes at Gompei Invitational

WORCESTER, Mass.  – Fifth-place finishes by freshman Dan Sausto (Slingerlands, N.Y./The Doane Stuart School) and senior Greg Coleman (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North HS) were the top final-day performances for the Bentley University men's swimming and diving team as the Gompei Invitational at WPI concluded on Sunday.

Sausto,  who broke the school record in both the 1650 and 1000 freestyle distances on Friday, took fifth in the 400 individual medley, finishing in 4:15.91. Coleman followed up on his fourth place finish in the one-meter diving by taking fifth from the three-meter board, posting a score of 342.10.

Freshman Jarod Yoshihara (Irvine, Calif./University HS) earned a pair of tenths on Sunday with times of 53.91 in the 100 back and 1:50.95 in the 200 free.

Bentley's other individual top ten came from sophomore Frank Elenio (Ridgefield, N.J./ Bergen County Academies) with a ninth in the 200 butterfly (2:00.69).

The three-day meet concluded with Bentley finishing sixth in the 400 free relay in 3:11.55. That quartet included junior Aidan Karam (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) and seniors Matt Ahlmeyer (Morris Plains, N.J./Morristown HS), Colin McCarthy (Glastonbury, Conn./Northwest Catholic HS) and Davis Wilson (Ransom Canyon, Texas/Lubbock HS).

In the team standings, which combined both men's and women's results, Bentley finished fifth among 13 squads with 2,641.5 points. WPI swam past Stevens Tech for the team title, 5136.5-4225, and the top five also included Rowan and Bryant universities.

Bentley will wrap up its first semester schedule Saturday at Norwich University.
