Bentley Swimmers & Divers Set for Northeast-10 Championships

Pre-Championship Psych Sheets | Championship Schedule Watch Live

WALTHAM, Mass.  – Current members of the Bentley University swimming and diving teams own a total of 31 individual medals from previous Northeast-10 Conference championships. They'll be looking to significantly add to that total later this week when the 2016 championships are contested at WPI's Sports & Recreation Center.

The list of Bentley medal winners is topped by senior diver Nicola Mancini (Falmouth, Maine/ Falmouth HS), who returns to the championships after missing last year's due to injury. She's a four-time gold medal winner after sweeping the women's diving in both 2013 and 2014. The three-time Division II All-America owns the meet records off both boards, 453.60 from the one-meter and 452.50 from the three-meter.

Bentley's other returning former champions are senior Sebastian Bury (Bellevue, Wash./ Newport HS) and sophomores Anne Warren (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron HS) and Emily Niemiec (Meriden, Conn./Francis T. Maloney HS). Bury captured the 100 yard freestyle in 2013, Warren placed first in the 200 butterfly a year ago and Niemiec earned gold in the 200 breaststroke in 2015.

Bury's resume also includes a silver in the 2014 50 free and a pair of bronze medals (2013 200 free, 2014 100 free). Niemiec, as a rookie last season, was also second in the 400 individual medley and third in the 200 IM.

Seniors Colton Bridge (Tolland, Conn./Tolland HS) and Owen Karl (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton HS) each have five career individual medals. Bridge was third on both diving boards as a freshman, second on both as a sophomore and the silver medalist on the one-meter last season. Karl was second in both the 200 free and 500 free in 2014, and is also a three-time bronze medalist (1650 free as a sophomore, 200 free and 500 free last year).

Senior Timothy Connolly (Dorchester/Boston Latin Academy) earned bronze in both the 100 back and 200 back in 2013, classmate Courtney Stone (Andover/Andover HS) was second on the one-meter and third on the three-meter  last year, and junior Kaitlin McGahie (Boylston/Tahanto Regional HS) had two thirds last year (50 free, 100 breast).

Other current  Falcons who have previously made it to the awards podium following individual swims are senior Meg Pernsteiner (Highland Heights, Ohio/Hawken School) (2nd in 200 IM, 2014), senior Alex Liulakis (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly HS) (3rd in 200 fly, 2014) and sophomore Aidan Karam (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) (3rd in 1650 free, 2015).

A pre-championship poll of conference coaches forecast Bentley to finish second in both the men's and women's competitions. That mirrors the Falcons' finishes last year.

The coaches predicted repeat champions, Southern Connecticut for the men and Assumption for the women. The Southern men received five first-place votes and 35 points while Bentley had one and 29. On the women's side, Assumption had eight firsts and 64 points and Bentley followed with one and 54.

The championships will get under way on Thursday and will continue throughout the weekend. Links to live results and free video will be available at www.bentleyfalcons.com and results can also be accessed on your mobile device via the Meet Mobile app.
