Bury & Wilde Named Bentley Swim MVPs; Six Others Also Honored

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior diver Paige Wilde (Naugatuck, Conn./Holy Cross HS) and junior Sebastian Bury (Bellevue, Wash./Newport Senior HS) were recently named the MVPs of the Bentley University men's and women's swimming and diving teams.
Team awards were also presented to seniors Nadine Edwards (Danbury, Conn./Danbury HS), Ryan Shanahan (Duxbury/Catholic Memorial HS) and Luke Mason (Lowell/Lowell HS), along with sophomores Kaitlin McGahie (Boylston/Tahanto Reg. HS), Laura Schlenker (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South HS) and Liam Bartlett (Syracuse, N.Y./William Nottingham HS).

Schlenker and Shanahan were recognized as the team's Most Improved, McGahie and Bartlett were chosen as the squad's Top Scholar-Athletes, and Coaches' Awards went to Edwards and Mason.

The MVP award is the latest in a series of honors that Wilde has earned. Wilde, who participated in the NCAA Division II pre-qualification meet in Indianapolis, was named the NE-10 Women's Diver of the Year and joined McGahie and Bartlett on the Academic All-NE-10 team. Her senior season included capturing both diving gold medals at the NE-10 Championships with scores of 404.60 on the one-meter board and 437.60 on the three-meter.

Bury scored two silver medals (200 yard free relay, 400 free relay) and a bronze (200 medley) during the Northeast-10 championships while also placing fourth in both the 50 and 100 freestyle races. He broke his own school records in both events (21.06 in the 50, 46.52 in the 100) as well as in the 200 free relay (1:24.58).

McGahie and Bartlett have shined in the classroom as managerial economics-management and liberal studies majors, each with a GPA of at least 3.75. McGahie earned four bronze medals during the conference championships, including the 100 breaststroke, and owns the school records in the 50 free (24.48) and the 100 individual medley (1:01.15). Bartlett has a share of the school record in the 200 free relay and was part of two silver-medal winning relay teams.

Shanahan concentrated on diving during this past season after primarily competing in the freestyle and breaststroke events earlier in his career. At the NE-10 Championships, he was seventh in the three-meter and eighth in the one-meter. Schlenker achieved personal bests in the 100 backstroke (1:02.89), 100 breast (1:21.03), 200 breast (2:25.92) and 200 individual medley (2:16.34) during her second collegiate season.

Edwards finished her career with her name attached to six school records, including the individual standards for the 500 free (5:06.02), 1000 free (10:36.67) and 1650 free (17:47.03). Mason's final season included PRs in the 100 free (49.40) and 50 back (28.34). Edwards, Mason and Shanahan each served as captains for their respective teams.

Both Bentley teams posted 7-4 dual records and were second in the Northeast-10's.
