Bridge Keeps String Going as Bentley Takes 2nd in Gompei Invitational

WORCESTER, Mass. – Bentley University junior Colton Bridge (Tolland, Conn./Tolland HS) swept the diving events for the sixth straight meet while helping the Falcon men's swimming and diving team finish second among eight teams in the Gompei Invitational, which concluded Sunday at WPI.

Bentley, with a score of 2,138, trailed only the host institution in the team standings with WPI finishing just 22 shy of 5,000. Roger Williams University and Brandeis University were third and fourth, respectively, with scores of 1,921 and 1,460.

In Sunday's action, Bridge claimed the three-meter title with a score of 404.45, besting David Genender of Saint Rose by 6.75 points. Bentley also took sixth in the three-meter with sophomore Nick Cilia (Brentwood, N.H./Exeter HS) finishing with a 289.80.

Saturday's one-meter competition was even closer with Bridge registering a 427.70 to edge Greneder by just 5.10. Cilia was again sixth (312.75) and senior Ryan Shanahan (Duxbury/Catholic Memorial HS) followed in eighth (291.30).

Bentley's highest finish in a swimming event Sunday was a third in the 400 yard free relay, with freshman Jon Boains (Unionville, Conn./Farmington HS) and sophomore Davis Wilson (Ransom Canyon, Texas/Lubbock HS) combining with juniors Tim Connolly (Dorchester/Boston Latin Acad.) and Sebastian Bury (Bellevue, Wash./Newport Sr. HS) for a time of 1:39.47.

Individually, senior Connor Mulvey-Hudson (Ardmore, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) had the highest finish, a fourth in the 50 breaststroke (28.21). He was also ninth in the 200 breast (2:19.60).

Connolly posted a fifth in the 100 backstroke (54.69) and sixth-place finishes were registered by freshman Aiden Karam (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) in the 1650 free (17:34.49) and Bury in the 50 back (25.65).

Connolly followed Bury in the 50 back, touching in 25.78 to finish seventh, and Wilson was eighth in the 1650 free (17:44.74). Also finishing eighth was senior Josh Witty (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos HS) in the 100 back (56.78).

Bentley, following a break for exams and holidays, will return to action Jan. 7 at St. Michael's.
