NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After accumulating a silver medal in diving, four bronze medals and four more school records during the fourth and final day of competition, the Bentley University Falcons finished second among seven teams in the 2014 Northeast-10 Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, which concluded Sunday at Southern Connecticut State's Hutchinson Natatorium.

Bentley, with a total of 743.5 points, was firmly entrenched in second with the Falcons 168.5 back of the host institution, which captured its 11th championship in 12 years, and 152 in front of third-place Le Moyne College.

The Falcons didn't win any gold during the meet but totaled seven silver and four bronze medals. School records were broken a total of 15 times in ten events, with sophomore Owen Karl (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton HS) involved in seven of those.

Sophomore diver Colton Bridge (Tolland, Conn./Tolland HS) collected Bentley's only silver medal on Sunday as he posted his second second-place finish of the meet, putting up a score of 389.50 on the three-meter board. That came three days after he was the runner-up in the one-meter. Freshman Nick Cilia (Brentwood, N.H./Exeter HS) took fourth in the three-meter, finishing with a 274.45.

Bentley's first school record of the evening came in the 100 yard freestyle with sophomore Sebastian Bury (Bellevue, Wash./Newport Senior HS) placing third. He finished in 46.93 seconds, breaking his own school record by 0.14 seconds. Also in the event, sophomore Nick Toselli (Barrington, R.I./Barrington HS) was fifth (47.58) and senior Steve Sylvia (Westerly, R.I./Westerly HS) took seventh (47.77, a time he also posted in the prelims).

The school record in the 400 free relay was broken twice Sunday with the standard dropping from 3:11.74 entering the day to 3:10.85 early in the afternoon to 3:07.58 in the finals. The latter, which resulted in a bronze in the meet's final event, was produced by Bury, Karl, Toselli and Sylvia.

In an earlier race, sophomores Kevin Diefenbach (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert HS) and Tim Connolly (Dorchester, Mass./Boston Latin Academy) combined with senior Peter Belanger (Andover, Mass./ Andover HS) and freshman Davis Wilson (Ransom Canyon, Texas/Lubbock HS) to take temporary possession of the record. That earned them a ninth-place finish although it was the meet's fifth-best 400 relay time.

Sophomore Alex Liulakis (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly HS) bettered the school record in the 200 butterfly, placing third in 1:55.84. That struck one of Bentley's oldest records from the history book, a 1:56.09 posted by Sean Osit back in 2005.

Karl earned bronze, one of five medals he collected during the four days, in the grueling 1650 free after swimming the 66 lengths of the pool in 16:55.16. Wilson also swam in the finals of that event, placing fifth in 17:07.48.

Bentley had three finalists in the 200 backstroke with junior Josh Witty (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos HS) fifth (1:56.16), Connolly sixth (1:56.19) and freshman Matt Ahlmeyer (Morris Plains, N.J./ Morristown HS) eighth (2:04.12). In the 200 breaststroke, junior Connor Mulvey-Hudson (Ardmore, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep HS) placed seventh in 2:11.47.
