Five from Bentley Honored for Efforts at NEISDA Championships

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University junior George Go (Manila, Philippines) was named the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week on Monday, and the conference's Rookie of the Week Awards went to Bentley freshmen Nadine Edwards (Danbury, Conn./Danbury HS) and Connor Mulvey-Hudson (Ardmore, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep).

In addition, Bentley's Mary Kay Samko was selected as the New England Swimming and Diving Association Women's Swim Coach of the Year for the fourth time and Rick Danehy was recognized as the NEISDA Charles Batterman Men's Diving Coach of the Year for the fifth time.

Go was three-for-three in terms of earning individual gold at NEISDA Championships over the weekend at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River Junction, Vt. as he took first in the 100 yard butterfly (52.06 seconds), 50 fly (23.47) and 50 backstroke (24.06, meet and school record). He also helped Bentley to seconds in two relays (3:32.17 in 400 medley and school record 1:35.23 in 200 medley), and to an exhibition time of 1:29.44 in the 200 free relay.

Edwards earned gold medals in all seven events (three individual, four relay) she swam during the three day meet with five school records, one meet record and three NCAA B cuts. She captured individual gold in the meet's three longest races with times of 5:06:02 in the 500 free, 10:36.67 in the 1000 and 17:50.57 in the 1650. She also helped Bentley win the following relays: 200 free (1:38.12,), 400 medley (3:55.26), 800 free (7:47.02) and the 400 free (3:34.19). The school records came in the 600 and 1000 free, and the three freestyle relays, and B cuts were posted in the 500, 1650 and 800 free relay.

Mulvey-Hudson earned the gold medal in the 200 breaststroke, touching in 2:09.03. He was also part of two silver-winning relays, including the 200 medley which set a school record of 1:35.23) and won bronze in the 50 breast (27.65). He also swam the 100 breast, finishing fifth in 59.56.

This marked the seventh time since 2001 that Samko has received a Coach of the Year award from the NEISDA Championship, and the sixth time that Danehy has been recognized by the organization. Samko is in her 16th year as Bentley's head coach, and this is Danehy's 17th season as the program's diving coach.

Bentley swept the two championships with the women's team repeating in comfortable fashion and the men pulling out a 10.5-point victory for their first NEISDA championship in four years.
