Walsh Receives NEISDA Male Senior Diver Award after 2nd Straight 4th-Place Finish

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Bentley University freshman Paige Wilde (Naugatuck, Conn./ Holy Cross HS) edged out junior teammate Abby Mathews (Chelmsford/Chelmsford HS) to finish second off the three-meter board as the diving portion of the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championships concluded at UMass-Dartmouth Sunday.

Wilde recorded a score of 352.30, about three better than Mathews' 349.15.  Kim Schmidt of Westfield State, who captured the one-meter on Saturday, made it a weekend sweep in convincing fashion with a winning score of 434.05.

Junior Shelly D'Aleo (Enfield, Conn./Suffield Academy), Bentley's top finisher in the one-meter (second overall), was sixth with a 302.25.

In the men's competition, Bentley senior Michael Walsh (South Salem, N.Y./John Jay HS) was recognized with the Senior Male Diver Award after his second straight fourth-place finish. He accumulated 329.90 points off the three-meter, with UMass-Dartmouth's Christian Francia claiming gold with an impressive 475.10.

The NEISDA Championships will resume Thursday with the first of three days of swimming at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River Junction, Vt.
