Walsh Finishes 4th in One-Meter Diving at NEISDA Championships

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Bentley University Shelly D'Aleo (Enfield, Conn./Suffield Academy) finished second off the one-meter board Saturday during the first day of the diving portion of the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Championships at UMass-Dartmouth.

D'Aleo, with a score of 387.25 points, finished 62.2 points back of the repeat champion, Kim Schmidt of Westfield State.

Bentley had two others in the top five, with junior Abby Mathews (Chelmsford/Chelmsford HS) taking fourth in 369.85 and freshman Paige Wilde (Naugatuck, Conn./Holy Cross HS) right behind her in fifth (367.70).

On the men's side, only 7.35 points separated the top four with Christian Francis of UMass-Dartmouth claiming victory with a 402.45.  Bentley senior Mike Walsh (South Salem, N.Y./John Jay HS), who won both diving events at last week's Northeast-10 Championships, was fourth in the eight-man competition, posting a 395.10.

D'Aleo's second and the fourths recorded by both Mathews and Walsh were identical to their results from the 2010 championships.

The three-meter event will be held Sunday with the preliminaries at 10:30 am and the finals at 4:30 pm.
