Stricker, Sylvia Double-Winners as Bentley Men Top Bridgewater State, 163-87

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Senior Erik Stricker (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central HS), competing in his final career dual meet, and sophomore Steve Sylvia (Westerly, R.I./Westerly HS) were double-winners as the Bentley University men's swimming team won 13 of 14 events en route to a 163-87 victory over Bridgewater State at Bridgewater's Dr. Mary Jo Moriarty Pool Tuesday night.

Stricker claimed the two longest races of the meet, with times of 10:56.72 in the 1000 yard freestyle and 5:14.57 in the 500.  Sylvia spent much less time in the pool while winning the 50 free in 22.78 seconds and the 50 breaststroke in 30.17.

Also recording freestyle victories were juniors Tyler Champagne (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional HS) in the 200 (1:52.73) and Mike Simoneau (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South HS) in the 100 (50.79).

In the backstroke, junior George Go (Manila, Philippines) was the winner in the 50 (25.58) and freshman Josh Witty (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos HS) took the 100 (59.23).

Bentley's other individual winners were senior Matt Wessels (Epsom, N.H./Bishop Brady HS) in the 100 individual medley (58.95), sophomore Phillip Chan (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier HS) in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.09) and junior Mike Culkin (Avon, Conn./Avon HS) in the 100 butterfly (57.48).

Bentley, which finished its dual schedule at 7-2, will have a little more than a week to prepare for the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, which will be held Feb. 2-4 at Southern Connecticut State.
