Two Diving Wins by Walsh Not Enough as Bentley Falls to Saint Rose, 145.5-85.5

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University senior Mike Walsh (South Salem, N.Y./John Jay HS) posted winning scorers in both diving events, but it wasn't enough as the Bentley University men's swimming team lost its first dual meet of the season, falling to The College of Saint Rose, 145.5-85.5, Sunday afternoon at the Dana Center pool.

Leading the 8-3 Golden Knights were junior Joseph Krok (Dalton), sophomore Kyle Wilson (Farmingville, Conn.) and senior Vadim Yafayev (Albany, N.Y.), each of whom won two individual events and participated on a winning relay team.

Walsh was not seriously challenged in either diving event as he took both in commanding fashion. He won the one-meter by nearly 80 points with a 264.14 and his margin of victory off the three-meter was about 114 as he registered a score of 244.20.

Bentley had six individual second-place finishes in the meet, with senior Tyler Champagne (Amityville, Conn./Orange HS) and sophomore Steve Sylvia (Westerly, R.I./Westerly HS) each posting a pair. Champagne's came in the 100 freestyle (10:32.36) and the 500 free (5:00.99), and Sylvia was second in both the 50 free (22.76) and 100 free (50.38).

Bentley, which was competing for the first time in 36 days, dropped to 5-1 on the season. The Falcons' next meet is Wednesday, a 6 pm start at Babson College.
