Undefeated Bentley Wins 1st 14 Events to Swim Past Norwich, 145.5-113.5

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University completed the fall semester portion of the schedule undefeated by winning the first 14 events during a 145.5-113.5 victory over Norwich University in men's college swimming Saturday afternoon at the Dana Center pool.

Leading the way were junior George Go (Manila, Philippines) and sophomore Steve Sylvia (Westerly, R.I./Westerly HS). They combined with senior Dave Curran (Danbury, Conn/Danbury HS) and sophomore Phillip Chan (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier HS) to win the meet-opening 200 yard medley relay in 1:41.04, and both also won two individual events.

Go was first to the wall in both butterfly events, with times of 24.55 seconds in the 50 and 54.73 in the 100. Sylvia captured the 50 freestyle in 22.41 and the 100 free in 50.15.

Bentley's other double-winners were freshman Josh Witty (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos HS), junior Tyler Champagne (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional HS) and senior Mike Walsh (South Salem, N.Y./John Jay HS). Witty prevailed in the backstroke events with times of 26.76 in the 50 and 57.67 in the 100. Champagne's wins came in the 200 free (1:51.66) and the 500 free (5:06.62), and Walsh was first in both diving events, with scores of 285.95 off the one meter and 272.70 on the three-meter.

Also turning in winning efforts for the Falcons were Chan in the 50 breast (28.28), sophomore Peter Belanger (Andover/Andover HS) in the 200 individual medley (2:07.67) and freshman Janco Cornelius (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield HS).

Bentley, 5-0, returns to action Jan. 15 against Saint Rose.
