Sylvia, Stricker Help Bentley Swim Past St. Michael’s, 114-97

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Steve Sylvia (Westerly, R.I./Westerly HS) and senior Erik Stricker (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central HS) each won two individual events as the Bentley University men's swimming team cruised to a 114-97 win over St. Michael's College Saturday night at the Dana Center.

Stricker touched first in both the 400 yard individual medley (4:41.93) and the 500 freestyle (5:16.10) while Sylvia was victorious in both the 50 free (22.56 seconds) and the 100 free (50.37). Sylvia also swam the final leg on Bentley's 400 free relay team that had a winning time of 3:23.32.

Bentley's list of winners also included junior Tyler Champagne (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional HS) in the 1000 free (10:50.24),  junior Ben DeMeule (Fall River/Durfee HS) in the 100 butterfly (58.21), junior George Go (Manila, Philippines) in the 100 backstroke (55.74) and sophomore Phillip Chan (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier HS) in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.53).

Senior Mike Walsh (South Salem, N.Y./John Jay HS) had another strong performance in the diving events, with scores of 237.75 on the three-meter board and 233.10 on the one-meter.

Both of Bentley's winning relays, the 400 free and the 200 medley, included senior Joe Frantel (Canandaigua, N.Y./Marcus Whitman HS).

Bentley, off to a 4-0 start, will be off until the Northeast-10 Invitational is held in the Dana Center pool Dec. 4.
