WALTHAM, Mass. -- Bentley University's Mike Walsh (South Salem, N.Y./John Jay HS) and Abby Mathews (Chelmsford/Chelmsford HS) each posted second-place finishes off the three-meter board as the diving portion of the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championships concluded Sunday night at Bentley's Dana Center pool.

Walsh, a junior, had a score of 360.65 and was just nosed out for the title, by 1.5 points, by UMass-Dartmouth's Christian Francia.

The women's competition wasn't quite as close with Mathews, a sophomore, posting a score of 351.20 and finishing about 65 points back of Westfield State's Kim Schmidt.

Bentley senior Emily Travers (Brentwood, N.H./Exeter HS) was fourth with 332.60 points and teammate Shelly D'Aleo (Enfield, Conn./Suffield Academy), a sophomore, was seventh amongst nine competitors, at 295.55.

The swimming portion of the NEISDA Championships will be held in White River Junction, Vt. this coming weekend, and the Bentley women with carry a substantial lead in the team standings into the meet. The Falcons amassed 158 during the two days of diving, 94 more than Keene State, UMass-Dartmouth and Westfield State.

On the men's side, Bentley amassed 52 points, with only Keene State (59) having more.
