Adelphi Tops Bentley 3-0

Garden City, N.Y. – Hosts Adelphi scored two goals in the first half and one in the second half in a 3-0 victory over the Bentley men's soccer team on a rainy Tuesday night.

It was the first meeting between the two sides since Bentley upended the top seeded Panthers in the quarterfinals of last season's NE10 playoffs on its way to the finals.

Adelphi jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 2:53 in on a goal by senior James Thirstino, who finished off a cross that came in from the left wing, to the near post from inside the six yard box. The cross was sent in from forward Taylor Kaczynski.

Kaczynski then set up Adelphi's second goal in the 27th minute, this time with midfielder Patrick Guier on the receiving end of his cross that he finished to the near post.

In the 2nd half, Thirstino converted a penalty kick in the 59th minute for his second goal of the night.

Bentley finished with six shots on goal to Adelphi's 10, while they had a 6-5 edge in corner kicks. Goalkeeper David Price (Needham, Mass./Beaver Country) made seven saves on the night.

The Falcons' record dropped 1-3-1 NE10. They'll look to bounce back on Saturday when they host Saint Michael's.
